Wojciech Matusik will join the EECS Department in February 2011 as Assistant Professor and a member of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. Wojciech received his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from UC Berkeley in 1997. He then moved to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2003. Since then he worked at Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories, Adobe Systems, and Disney Research.

Matusik’s research interests are in the area of computer graphics and in particular in data-driven materials, virtual humans, and computational photography and display. His main research goal is to bridge the gap between the digital and real world. In order to achieve this task, he designs complete processes to measure, model, and fabricate materials or objects. He has recently proposed processes for designing and reproducing materials with desired reflectance, scattering, and elastic properties.
